Youtube increases upload limit to 1GB

Posted on April 5th, 2008 | by admin |

I don’t know if this is old news and I just didn’t get the memo but I noticed today while uploading Hak5 episode 3×09 that my upload limit has dramatically been increased from 100MB to 1GB! I don’t recall getting a message from youtube on the matter but if I did it probably went directly to the bacon folder.

The great news is that I’ll no longer need to render out crappy 100mb versions of Hak5 episodes. I successfully uploaded a 256MB 40 minute video in h.264 encoding at 512kbps and it looks pretty damn good for youtube. Watch out Veoh!

Might be just for director accounts. What has your experience been?

    hmm… i did notice a link on youtube the other day that said ‘view this video in higher quality’.

    maybe they’re finally catching on.

    I don’t notice any “view this video in higher quality” link, but I have an old skool account.

    The largest file I uploaded was 780mb, and a whopping 2 hours 20 minutes 46 seconds long. YouTube’s player obviously wasn’t designed for this, because it shows 140:4.

    And yes, its a legal video.

    Your video is limited to 10 minutes and 1024 MB.

    @Iyeman

    Even if you have an old skool director account, the site will still say you have a 10 minute limit.

    yay for better video quality!!! one of the worst things about youtube is the horrible vid quality on most of the stuff you find there…
