OMG what is this. An actual update to DKnet? Finally?

Yes, after much neglect to the site I’m actually posting. I was so busy producing Hak.5 that I haven’t had a chance to post. Anyway, here is what’s been going on:

The game is dead. Long live the game. It’s a real shame, but until I can put more time into fixing the game I had to take it offline. It’s a real bummer, I know, but the PHP code is just too insecure to keep online. Anyone could inject code into the forms and they would render whatever was entered. So for right now it’s gone. I guess my main fear was that some of the hacklings would find DKnet and take advantage of it. I’m not going to risk it, so it’s gone. It was fun while it lasted. Maybe if I can get the Kitchen back together I’ll put it there just for friends and family. Or maybe I’ll make it a widget for Konfabulator. Whatever.

Hak.5 Episode 2 was released and it was a huge success. We’ve had millions of hits and done terabytes of downloads. We are growing faster than we every imagined. The feedback has been great, some even saying that Hak.5 is their favorite IPTV show. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s the best, but out of the tens of IPTV tech shows out there, it does seem to be doing fairly well. At least we have lapel microphones and tripods. Now if only we could afford a decent lighting kit, a steady cam rig, and some wireless mics, then we would be really rocking.

We’re looking at other ISPs to host the downloads. We need a server with at least 10-20 Terabytes of bandwidth. That is probably going to cost hundreds per month. Until then we have been relying on the community to support us with mirrors, and thanking Bram Cohen for Bit Torrent. I’ve also been playing with YouTube and OurMedia to host the files. Until we get a solid host we can’t really get on iTunes, and that is really hurting us. Between the bandwidth, rss feeds, and updates to the site we really haven’t had much time to start working on episode 3, but we are scheduled to start shooting this weekend. We did at least have a teleconf last night to discuss upcoming segments and other Hak.5 related issues. I can’t believe it, but I actually made a powerpoint to direct the meeting. Wow, now I just need a suit and a cigar. Oh well, at least we stayed on topic and got a lot of useful feedback from the Norfolk crew.

Much more work to do. I’ll check back in a couple days.
