Score one for the consumers… I hope.
Posted on February 27th, 2005 | by admin |Today I noticed on Slashdot this beautiful tid bit of information
The SciFi channel has made Episode ‘33′ (Season 1 Episode 1) of Battlestar Galactica available for free, uncut and commercial free, online at SciFi.com. Also available are deleted scenes from the series. Is this a ploy by the SciFi channel to grow a viewer base as well as loyalty, or an extremely bold move since the series isn’t even out on DVD yet?
Either way you look at this, it’s a step in the right direction. Though I haven’t yet seen Battle Star Galactica, I’m told it is a great show, and with Enterprise going off the air (RIP) I think I may just download this pilot and give the show a shot. I’m sure that’s exactly what SciFi channel is hoping for, and if this is successful hopefully it will pave the way for the media downloads I’m so wishing for.
I know, wishful thinking.
PS: With the broadcast flag coming around the corner, does anyone want to make a friendly wager on how long before it’s cracked? Or better yet, how long until hosting or even linking to the crack is deemed illegal, al la the DeCSS fiasco.

Did you watch battlestar yet? OMFG it’s so awesome. You should really watch the miniseries before you see the first episode though, it establishes a lot of things you should know. The first episode really starts right where it left off.

I’ve got 20 saying the code will be cracked in a week, +/- 2 days

another 20 saying that 1 week after the crack comes out, the lawers will have their panties in a bind.

I’m trying to get the miniseries from Netflix, but since I’ve been a Netflix customer for a while the BSG Miniseries DVD is listed as “Long Wait”, and has been for a while. I’ll check BT.

I’ll bite on the 1 week, +/- 2 days, but not on the lawers getting their panties in a twist.

See the Miniseries and get hooked, although it wouldn’t be hard to get hooked if you just started with the shows. You might also be interested in the Original series that aired in the 70’s and was cutting edge for its time. Although I maintain I can see the wires.

One other thing. Buzz is that SciFi Channel is going to pick up Enterprise for another season.

I sure hope so. I saw the full page ad that Enterprise fans got in the LA Times (Or was it NYT?) that proclaimed that someone should pitch in 50 million and save Enterprise, or move it to SciFi Channel, “Its Logical Place”.
Interesting that fans can react that quickly with a full page ad. Then again Mozilla Firefox fans raised $250,000 for a NYT ad.
I’m still looking for the miniseries, if you’ve got an ISO give me a holla.
