My blog is back. From Wordpress to blogger, typepad, vox, now back to Wordpress

In 2005 I started this blog with Wordpress and had a lot of fun with it. Later that year Hak5 started and took over my life. That also painted me (and the show of course) as a target within the skiddie community. Duh, welcome to the Internet. Anyway long story short I let a few versions of Wordpress pass and left my personal blog get hax0red. Basically index.php was nulled, big whoop. At the time I was too busy to care so I closed the doors at DKnet. Over the last few seasons I figured I might as well try our some of the other hosted blog platforms and bounced around from Blogger (meh) to Typepad (thx Amber but it wasn’t for me) to Vox (kinda cool Leo but alas too limited) and now back home on Wordpress.

This is in fact my original install of Wordpress, complete with first posts from ‘05 and all. Yippie! I had originally set this blog up with Dreamhost’s one-click-installs and when I restored the place a few weeks ago it was still running Wordpress 1.2! DH offers a one-click-upgrade so I figured, what the hell, backed up the DB and gave it a shot. Expecting disaster I terrifiedly clicked refresh and saw nothing. Rats. Tried to log in and WP throws the default “your DB is old and busted, wanna update it?” message. Suuuuure, give it a shot WP. Again expecting disastrophy. A moment later everything was teh_bling, bling. Who knew? So hats off to DH and the WP team yo.

So I figure I’ll continue updating this wheneverly which in this case should be more frequently than wheneverly of the past. You see I had a hell of a lot of fun with this blog back when the viewership was my close friends, family, and a couple friendly search spiders. But when Hak5 started I held myself up to such high standards with any sort of publicly viewable content that I basically just stopped. Today that is no longer the case for a few simple reasons. First, I’ve read enough digg and youtube comments to have grown a thick skin and I don’t give a shit. Second, see the first. Third, it’s fun to make up words like terrifiedly. So basically I’m over the whole “everything has to be a perfect essay” thing and will continue to ramble like an ADD kid on redbull.

Welcome back. I’ll be here rambling for a while.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I tried importing all my posts from my Vox blog here but I could only reasonably get the latest 10 or so items from the feed and, well, I’m honestly not that enthusiastic about troubleshooting and all that jazz so if you’ve got a fix i’d appreciate a link or whatnot but seriously I don’t think I care that much so if you’re looking for what I had to say in 2006-2007 check darrenkitchen.vox.com
