Magic Carpet Ride
My Rebel was delivered Friday and I was so excited. So far it’s got less than a mile on it and aside from pouring over the owners manual my only real experience with it so far has been getting on it and starting the engine to hear it purr, and believe me this thing puts my cat Kerby to shame. After taking a few pictures my friend Wess helped me push it up to my apartment door and park it under the stairwell. It’s covered and chained up so I’m feeling ok about it right now, but eventually I’ll put it in a storage facility. I’ve enrolled in a MSF Basic Riders Course in Richmond in late April, so until then its just going to have to sit there and look pretty. I’m really excited about learning to ride, but I’m a bit nervous about getting out on the open road as well. Only time and practice will help that.
My roommate Jon moved out tonight so it’s just Kerby and I now. I’m going to setup the newly vacated room as a home theater until I figure out if I want another roommate. I got an LCD projector from a co-worker for free and I’ve been thrilled watching movies on my walls at 12’x6′. I’ve fell in love with playing Mario Kart on the ceiling above my bed. It takes a while to get used to it, and I was motion sick for the first minute or so, but after that it’s really fun and immersive. The projector is a few years old and it tad noisy but it gets masked by the sound of the game or movie so it’s not a big deal. Unfortunately the bulbs are only rated at 1000 hours and replacements at $300-400. I have no idea how many hours are already on the current bulb so it could blow out this week or this year.
I’ve been evaluating the Treo 650 smartphone I recently got and I’ve got to say this thing is powerful, but a bit cumbersome at times. I like that I can do email and remote administration from my phone, but other things require additional software which costs anywhere from 10 to 50 dollars. I find it incredibly amazing that software companies are asking $30 for a little music player. After getting a $600 phone you wouldn’t think you would get nickel and dimed for things that should be included in the box. This is strange for me because I’ve always been on the Pocket PC side of the fence, and while the devices themselves run a Microsoft operating system (eew) it was never hard to find good free software for it. I guess I’m just glad that I got this thing at a 90% discount.
I’ve been working on the site and I’ve finally added a moblog (camera phone blog). You can see it on the right side of the site, feel free to comment on any photos, and sorry about the not-so-great quality, the pictures are taken from the camera on my phone.
That’s all for now, soon I’ll be uploading more family photos from the archive, and hopefully when I find someone to convert super 8 to DVD I’ll be adding some videos of mom’s ballroom dance competitions.
PS: If you haven’t already seen it, check out Garden State on DVD. Good stuff.
