Disaster at the HakHouse. Part 1

Posted on April 23rd, 2008 | by admin |

I’m making a note here, epic fail. Yesterday I came home from work to find the HakHouse a wet soggy mess. A pipe burst above the kitchen that flooded the entire downstairs and parts of the upstairs. Everything is wet. Everything is soggy. The place wreaks of fail.

The cause? Crappy Poly-B piping. There was a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer years ago but sadly my stuff was installed too long ago to qualify for replacement from the consumer plumbing recovery center. Luckily I’ve got some awesome insurance and everything is getting taken care of.

These disaster recovery super heroes Service Master are at the house testing, cleaning, and tearing everything apart. We’re working with a contractor to have everything repaired. I have no idea how long this process will take but so far I’m hopeful that everything will be restored swiftly. Everyone I’ve worked with has been attentive and professional. Aside from the house being pretty much ruined downstairs everything is fine. I should note that as far as we’ve seen no equipment was damaged. I’m pretty sure this will put a strain on 3×10 development.

I’m leaving for Springfield Missouri on Thursday and will return next Tuesday. I’ll try to get some pics of the progress from Matt or Paul while I’m out. More from the disaster can be found on this flickr set.

Did I mention this sucks?

    Good thing you don’t keep a lot of expensive electronics in the house. :-{
    It’s hard to tell from the pictures, was it just confined to the kitchen and hallway or did it fail all over the place?

    I’m glad no electronics were harmed!

    @will Kitchen, hallway, laundry room, downstairs bathroom, network closet, living room, and set were damaged. The kitchen got it the worst but it looks like they’ll be slicing into just about every wall including the exteriors.

    And so thankfully no electronics let out the magic smoke. The smoothwall was like “wtf is up with all the water eh? Whatever, I keeps the packets going ya know” (yes, our smoothwall is Canadian)

    Ouch, that sucks! I’m glad you’re being taken care of properly by the insurance company though and that all of your electronic toys weren’t destroyed.
